Northern Maldives Adventure – September 22nd Dive Expedition

On September 22nd, we began an exhilarating northern dive trip from Male, charting a course through some of the Maldives' most remarkable atolls. Our journey led us through North Male Atoll, Lhaviyani Atoll, Noonu Atoll, Raa Atoll, and Baa Atoll, each with its own unique dive sites and underwater wonders to explore.

The dives were thrilling, with medium to strong currents adding an extra level of excitement. One of the standout moments of the trip was an unexpected encounter with a giant hammerhead shark at Kuredhu Express. It was a jaw-dropping sight that none of us will forget! However, not all surprises were welcome — our dive at Kuredhu Caves took an unusual turn when the nearby resort decided to release sewage into the water. As unpleasant as that sounds, it created a feeding frenzy, giving us an incredible show of fish activity, turning the dive into an oddly fascinating spectacle.

Unfortunately, we missed out on visiting Hanifaru Bay during the new moon as there weren’t enough manta rays in the area. But the disappointment didn’t last long. We had an unforgettable dive at Hirondhoo, a bay just north of Hanifaru, where we spent an hour underwater with a majestic whale shark and a few graceful mantas. It was an extraordinary experience that made up for the missed manta sighting in Hanifaru.

Though the weather was changeable, the atmosphere on the boat remained fantastic throughout. After 11 days of exploring, including multiple sightings of whale sharks right off the back of the boat, we wrapped up the journey with a diverse and lively group of guests from Japan, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and England. It was a spectacular trip filled with great company, thrilling dives, and amazing marine life encounters.

This was truly an unforgettable journey, and we’re already looking forward to the next adventure!
